Banking hours 0900am to 4.30pm Monday to Friday
Nearest banks from the base are in Paihia. Banks represented are as follows
- Bank of New Zealand
- Westpac Trust
- Auckland Savings Bank
- ANZ
Overseas currency and traveller's cheques are easily changed. Located
in Paihia approximately 10 minutes drive from the Base offering full banking
and foreign exchange services. The opening hours are Monday to Friday
0900 am to 430pm. 24 hours automatic teller machines are located outside
the banks.
Local Currency
New Zealand currency is decimal with the dollar as the basic unit. Notes
come in $100, $50, $20, $10 and $5 denominations. Coins come in 5c, 10c,
20c, 50c $1 and $2 denominations.
Travellers' cheques
You should cash travellersí cheques at banks or larger hotels,
as it may be difficult elsewhere. Please note that some banks may charge
a fee for cashing travellersí cheques.
Credit cards
Major credit cards are generally accepted. The most commonly accepted
credit cards are American Express, Bankcard, Diners Club, MasterCard,
Visa JCB and their affiliates. Use may be restricted in smaller towns
and country areas and small retail shops. To be safe, inquire first if
you plan to pay for your purchase with a credit card.
